The Royal College of Physicians has long been an advocate of knowledge sharing between UK based medical institutions and partners abroad, as well as being a key player in supporting the cause of international medical graduates seeking short term training. As such, The RCP is keen to provide information for IMGs to help them with training and the issues around working in the UK.
The RCP runs three schemes for IMGs who want to undergo short term training in the UK:
This scheme facilitates General Medical Council registration for IMGs who have already been offered a training post in the UK and have official funding for this purpose. Under this scheme, the College also supports the applicant for the Tier 5 visa if required.
Tier 5 supports IMGs, who have already gained GMC registration and want to undertake short term training, for the Tier 5 visa.
The MTI was launched in February 2009 by the Department of Health. The scheme is designed to allow for small numbers of IMGs to come to the UK to benefit from training and development in NHS services before returning to their home countries.
