The OHCEU aims to improve the health of the workforce and the clinical effectiveness of occupational health services, supporting the cross-government Health, Work and Wellbeing initiative and the Darzi report 'High quality care for all'.
The Occupational Health Clinical Effectiveness Unit (OHCEU) was commissioned by NHS Plus in 2007 to contribute to raising the quality of clinical occupational health care for the 1.3 million NHS staff. The Unit has two main work streams: national clinical audit and evidence based clinical guidelines. The Unit is a partnership between the Faculty of Occupational Medicine and the Royal College of Physicians, where it is based.
OHCEU's workstreams include national clinical audits of occupational health practice in the NHS in England, the development of national evidence based guidelines and change management support for implementation of guidelines. OHCEU has also contributed to the completion of a series of evidence-based guidelines developed by NHS Plus. The Unit has built up a reputation for delivering high quality products that have engaged the OH community across the NHS.
The Unit's current work programme agreed with NHS Plus includes dissemination and implementation of the audit findings and the guideline recommendations. In addition it is working with the Map of Medicine and the concise guideline group at the RCP.
