‘This animal is call’d Al Jerbua or Jerbua. The living animal from which this was drawn…is now the property of Mr Scarlett, Optician, by St Ann’s Church, Westminster. It is remarkable that it hops like a Bird on its hinder Legs, never setting its fore Paws on the Ground, but generally hides them in the furr under its Throat’. As the animal was brought from Egypt, Edwards shows pyramids in the background.
