The museum collections are split in to three: portraits; silver and medical collections.
Portraits
The College holds an important collection of portraits of its Presidents, Fellows and associated personalities. Displayed throughout the College buildings, they are a fascinating record of the most eminent figures in the history of British medicine from the 16th century to the present day.
Silver
For centuries Fellows and Members have donated silver and memorabilia items to the College. It was traditional for the recipient of an honour to give a gift while other pieces were given as bequests. Many are ‘working' objects, still used today for formal occasions in the College.
Medical Collections
On display in the College is the Symons Collection – a remarkable group of medical care artefacts and instruments from the 18th and 19th centuries. The College’s own collections contain many rare items including antimony cups and early surgical instruments.
