History & heritage 

The Royal College of Physicians is the oldest medical college in England, and has a collection of paintings, artefacts, archive material and printed books that encompass centuries of medical figures and thinking. The collections are overseen by the Heritage Centre.

Tudor Beginnings

Charting the College's first hundred years, using items from the library, archive and museum collections.

 

 

Johann Zoffany's painting of William Hunter

Painting on loan

Johann Zoffany's painting of William Hunter lecturing has been loaned to Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery until February 2010, for an exhibition on Joshua Reynolds.

 

Historic Library

The library holds c.30,000 books and pamphlets, including the Dorchester Collection.

Museum

The College has a fine collection of portraits, prints and silver, and houses the Symons Collection of medical artefacts.

Archive

The collection has manuscripts tracing College history from 1518, and personal papers of key medical figures. 

Architecture

The College's fifth home, at Regent's Park, was designed by Sir Denys Lasdun, and is Grade I listed.
