International

The Royal College of Physicians is a truly global organisation. Around 20% of our members and fellows currently live outside of the UK, with most falling into one of three categories:

  • British doctors who have studied in the UK and later emigrated.
  • Doctors from abroad who have come to the UK in order to train or work.
  • Doctors who have never lived or studied in the UK, but who took an MRCP exam in one of the ever-expanding network of overseas examination centres.

Thanks to this network of clinical expertise, the RCP has both the ability and the duty to maintain and extend our global reach. Doing so can only increase the impact of our mission to improve the quality of patient care. The RCP’s International Office coordinates and facilitates a wide range of international projects. However, most departments participate in some form of international work, which includes:

  • Supporting RCP members and fellows based around the world.
  • Helping medical graduates from abroad come to the UK for training.
  • Providing pro bono support and training to health educators in developing countries.
  • Exporting our expertise in medical standards and education.
  • Collaboration on research and policy with medical and government institutions.

Explore our international network and find out how are we are working to improve healthcare provision in your region. Projects in each region are coordinated by an Associate International Director.
