The work of the RCP in Europe is primarily focused on developing collaborations for education, training and clinical standards, with the College acting as a link between our partners internationally and offering guidance from our various areas of expertise.
Partnerships and Bursaries
The College works closely with the European Federation of Internal Medicine (EFIM) with a view to developing a more integrated medical community across the continent, embracing particularly the newer EU member states. From 2009, the UK is hosting the European School of Internal Medicine (ESIM), attended by delegates from different European countries.
ESIM
The RCP offer four bursaries per year for doctors from Central and Eastern European countries to attend, and hosts a very successful study day during the week of the school.

Expanding our links
We have a strong relationship with our members and fellows in Malta, Cyprus and Greece, and have held joint conferences in each of these countries in the last 4 years.
One of our major projects involves the development of closer clinical and educational links with colleagues in Central and Eastern Europe. Seeking to explore collaborative opportunities the College visited Slovakia in October 2009 to identify potential fields of joint work with Slovakian medical institutions within the RCP’s areas of expertise.
