What is it like to work at the College?
In 2005 I joined the College as “Part 2 Written Examination Administrator” within the Examinations Department. This was my role for 2½ years but I was seconded within the department on two occasions; once to the Medical Secretaries office and once as Interim Policy Officer, the latter role offering me the opportunity to take part in a managers' training programme-pilot. Following this I obtained a Diploma in Management and I am now a member of the Chartered Management Institute. After a brief stint working for a different company, a permanent management position was advertised at the College. My application was successful and I enjoy being back at the College. The atmosphere is professional but congenial.
The College supports staff development through identifying individual training needs and offering “learning at work” sessions. In 2007, the College sponsored my attendance at the “Young in England and Wales Programme” where I was able to improve my public speaking skills and proceeded to win the title “Senior Fellow of the Year”!
The College is conveniently located, easy to reach by public transport and close to Regent’s Park and Oxford Street. The holiday provision is generous and the flexi-time scheme is much appreciated.

On moving to London from a rural background, the change seemed a little daunting. These apprehensions were soon quashed with the friendly and welcoming atmosphere I found on my first day at the Royal College of Physicians.
The College’s induction programme and hands-on training ensured I quickly became confident in my job and was aware of not only my role within my team but also the role I play within the College as a whole. I soon noticed the College is always looking to develop its staff and offers courses and opportunities to develop within my role. The superb three course daily lunch offered is an ideal place to converse with colleagues and build good relations. Believing in the notion of ‘healthy body, healthy mind’ I was excited to find the College offers discounted gym memberships, yoga and aerobics sessions and the opportunity to join a College football team!
