Patient, carer and public involvement

The Royal College of Physicians of London was founded in 1518 and granted its Royal Charter by Henry VIII. For nearly 500 years the College has sought to act in the interests of patients through a growing range of activities and is committed to the involvement of patients with all aspects of its work.

The professional interests of the College concern the improvement of patient care and seek to ensure that the UK has properly trained doctors working to high clinical standards in medicine. The fundamental interest of the College is therefore ultimately for the good of patients.

The College is committed to involving patients in its work and we do this through the work of the Patient Involvement Unit (PIU) which manages the Patient and Carer Involvement Steering Group (PCSG) and Patient and Carer Network (PCN).
