Responding to consultations

Background

The responsibility for overseeing College consultation responses is delegated from Council to the Registrar, Dr Rodney Burnham. In 2008 the College received over 500 requests for comment. Our aim is that responses are timely, representative and inclusive of views from all our specialties. To become involved the consultation topic should relate to our key objectives:

The College regularly responds to both clinical and general policy questions. They are posed by bodies such as the Department of Health, the National Institue for Health and Clinical Excellence, the General Medical Council and the Healthcare Commission.

Joint working

In responding to consultations, we liaise closely with the specialist societies and other Royal Colleges. This is often done by utilising our committee structure and producing joint responses. We also take advice from individual experts among our Fellows and Members.

Responses

The College maintains a portfolio of views and position statements on matters relating to medical practice and health policy.
