What is the RCP Consultant Census?
The Medical Workforce Unit conducts the College’s consultant census during Autumn of each year. This is an online survey which is emailed to all consultant physicians working in general medical specialties in the United Kingdom. We collect information about consultants workloads and responsibilities.
The census enables us to provide accurate data on numbers and working patterns of UK hospital consultants. Information from the census assists individual specialties with their negotiations about future trainee numbers with the NHS Workforce Review Team.
Results from the census are published in an annual report. They are used by a variety of external medical organisations and members of the public.
