- The first services achieved accreditation in 2011, with approximately 200 services working towards achieving the standards, including single-handed services to NHS occupational health departments and large national corporations.
A number of organisations are committed to gaining accreditation through their pledge as part of the Department of Health’s 2011 ‘Public Health Responsibility Deal’.
Additionally it is a requirement of the Department of Health ‘NHS Health and Well-being Improvement Framework’ and the NHS ‘Healthy Staff, Better Care for Patients’ policy documents that all NHS occupational health providers should be fully accredited, or ready for accreditation by March 2012.
Assessment
Assessment for accreditation will be against the SEQOHS standards, developed by the Faculty of Occupational Medicine in collaboration with a multi-agency, multidisciplinary stakeholder group.
The scheme is designed to raise the overall standard of care provided by occupational health services, thus helping to make a meaningful difference to the health of people of working age. The RCP Accreditation Unit manages the SEQOHS scheme under contract from the Faculty of Occupational Medicine.
