Building on the success of the UK Inflammatory Bowel Audit (IBD) and the 2009 ‘Service Standards for the healthcare of people who have Inflammatory Bowel Disease', the Health Foundation has funded a new pilot project, run by the Royal College of Physicians.

Aims

The project is developing a website that will enable services to benchmark their provision of IBD care and rapidly identify areas of their service that might be underperforming. A shared store of ‘best practice’ will provide easy access to tools and best practice that will help services make necessary improvements.

All IBD teams will be invited to participate in piloting this website. 30 teams were to be selected to evaluate and feedback on the new website in March 2011.

This new way of working will not only support services in achieving excellence in their IBD service, but will also encourage and improve links between service providers and promote an open sharing of ways of working.
