Northern

The RCP’s Northern regional office is dedicated to furthering professional development using training programmes, and delivering educational symposia and revision courses for consultants and trainees. Our office has evolved since opening in 1995, now a resource providing help and support to clinicians throughout the region.

We also run courses for trainees: practical skills – a combination of didactic teaching and use of simulator models – for F2s and CMT trainees (six per year), CMT generic teaching sessions (three per year) and mock PACES exams (three per year). In addition, we offer CMT forums for induction to the CMT Northern region rotations, the structure of the RCP, MRCP exams, eportfolio, ARCPs and demystifying the recruitment and selection process. We facilitate the MRCP Part 1 & Part 2 examinations in Newcastle, and also facilitate six mandatory half-day training programmes for the region's GIM SpRs.

The regional speciality advisor for Service Quality reviews and approves job descriptions, RCP fellowship nominations, CPD approval applications and the national ACCEA. Our interaction with the Northern Deanery School of Medicine, the Northern Deanery per se as well as with the RCP has enhanced our educational provision, quality assurance and ensures we meet the standards required for a regional office.
