Elected councillor
Dr Ajay Verma is an elected member of Council at the Royal College of Physicians (RCP).
Dr Ajay Verma is a consultant gastroenterologist working in Kettering, Northamptonshire, where he was appointed in 2015. He has specialist interests in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), early colorectal cancer, endoscopy (including endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography – ERCP), and clinical research – he is the research director at Kettering General Hospital and one of the hospital’s chief clinical information officers.
In 2019, Ajay was appointed gastroenterology specialty lead for the NIHR Clinical Research CRN East Midlands. Having previously served as chair of the RCP New Consultants Committee, he is currently an elected RCP councillor, and a member of the Medical Specialties Board and Joint Specialty Committee for Gastroenterology and Hepatology.
Ajay is chair of the British Society of Gastroenterology’s colorectal section and member of the endoscopy clinical research group. He is also a member of the Midlands Gastroenterological Society executive committee.
Away from work Ajay enjoys spending time with family. His wife Vini is an interventional GI radiologist, his son Luca is eight and his daughter Bella is six. He is a sports fanatic – football, cricket, tennis and American football. He also plays badminton to a reasonable standard (his assessment!).
