Dr David Martin

Associate global director for Americas

Dr Martin is Vice Chair for Network Development and Innovative Care Solutions in the Department of Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts. He is a cardiac electrophysiologist with an active clinical and procedural practice.

Dr Martin is responsible for growing the Brigham Health network, and for innovating to deliver superlative care across a wide geography in the most convenient and timely fashion for patients and their families. This includes the thoughtful application of new technologies and the introduction of new methods of care delivery, as well as a strong focus on the importance of relationships with patients and physicians.

Prior to his appointment as associate director for Americas, he was international advisor to the RCP and worked closely with our education director to launch medical education initiatives in the United States. He has been an educator, a leader of educational programmes in cardiology and general medicine, and an examiner in both the US and UK.

He is also President of a Boston-based charity that provides cardiac services to indigent patients in South America, Asia and East Africa. In this capacity, he has a 25-year history of working in Bolivia managing patients with complex cardiac problems resulting from Chagas disease. 

Dr Martin’s current research interests are focused on the relationship between atrial fibrillation and clinical outcomes such as stroke. He regularly lectures and participates in conferences in Europe and the Americas, and strives to develop strong links with the RCP’s members and fellows, as well as with the wider medical community. This includes the promotion of closer ties between the College and its partner institutions in North and South America as well as in the Caribbean.
