Dr Jyoti Baharani is a consultant in nephrology and general medicine at University Hospitals Birmingham. She is associate medical director with the portfolio of appraisal and revalidation and an honorary senior lecturer at the University of Birmingham.
Jyoti completed her undergraduate medical training at the University of Dundee and trained in nephrology and internal medicine in the east and north of Scotland.
Jyoti leads the home therapies and pre-dialysis programme and is regional specialty advisor for renal medicine in the West Midlands. One of the first in the country to adopt a multidisciplinary patient pathway, this pre-dialysis service is cited as an example of exemplary clinical practice.
Jyoti was previously clinical director for renal medicine at the Heart of England Foundation Trust in Birmingham, and an RCP college tutor. Her research interests include drivers for patient choice, acute kidney injury, clinical outcomes of peritoneal and home-haemodialysis, cognition, frailty and end of life in dialysis patients.
