Dr Mark Harber

Special adviser on healthcare sustainability and climate change

Dr Mark Harber is a consultant nephrologist at the Royal Free Hospital in London, and associate professor at University College London (UCL) Department of Nephrology, with specialist interests in transplantation and immunity.

Mark has a long-standing interest in sustainability and how individuals, and healthcare institutions can become more sustainable, while also improving patient care and public health. He has been a clinical lead for NHS London sustainability and is an adviser to UCL Partners Climate Collaborative.

The purpose of his role as the special adviser on healthcare sustainability and climate change is to:

  • advise the RCP on issues relating to sustainability in healthcare and the impact of climate change on health
  • act as a primary RCP spokesperson to the media on issues relating to sustainability and climate change, as advised by the RCP’s media team and/or senior officers
  • advise the academic vice president on the development of the RCP’s workplan addressing sustainability in healthcare
  • contribute to the development of the RCP’s strategy to reduce health inequalities.
