Dr Michael Lazarus obtained his MBBCh degree from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. He completed internal medicine residency training at Washington University, School of Medicine in St. Louis.
After obtaining board certification in internal medicine, he joined the faculty at Washington University. In 2003, he moved to David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA to head the Hospitalist Section.
He is currently associate chair of the division of general internal medicine and serving a five-year term as governor of the Southern California Chapter of the American College of Physicians. His main academic focus is teaching clinical skills.
