Professor Rudy Bilous graduated from Guy’s Hospital Medical School, London in 1976. After completing clinical training, he undertook a research fellowship at the University of Minnesota, USA in 1985–7.
Rudy is professor (emeritus) of clinical medicine at Newcastle University, and was clinical sub-dean for undergraduate studies on Teesside until 2016. From 2016–8 he was clinical dean at Newcastle University Medical School in Malaysia.
He was an honorary consultant physician in diabetes and endocrinology at South Tees Hospitals Trust from 1990–2016.
Rudy has always had a keen interest in teaching and assessment and is currently working part time as teaching consultant in the trust.
He was a member of the MRCP(UK) Part 2 Question Board and has been an MRCP(UK) examiner since its inception.
Rudy was chairman of the NICE Guideline Development Group for Diabetes in Pregnancy, published in 2015, and has served as a member of the National Kidney Foundation-sponsored guideline writing groups for diabetic nephropathy and chronic kidney disease.
