Special adviser on air quality
Professor Holgate is the Medical Research Council Clinical professor of immunopharmacology and honorary consultant physician within medicine at the University of Southampton.
In 1965, Stephen studied medicine at Charing Cross Hospital Medical School and then undertook a 2-year fellowship at Harvard Medical School. In 1980, he pursued a research career on the mechanisms of asthma and allergy. He has a particular interest in the role of air pollutants, viruses and allergens in driving airway inflammation and remodelling.
