RCP associate membership is available to medical students, foundation doctors, internal medical trainees, and qualified physicians including SAS doctors and advanced clinical practitioners.

RCP associate membership welcomes you to our community and is here to help you excel from the very start of your career in medicine and to succeed in your first years as a fully qualified doctor. We champion your development and have purpose-built the tools and local networks to support you to succeed, every day. After passing the MRCP(UK) exam, you will become eligible for collegiate membership.

Associate RCP membership offers a wide range of benefits specific to your education and career stage. These benefits include:

  • Full online access to Clinical Medicine, Future Healthcare Journal and Commentary magazine to keep you abreast of the latest developments across general medicine, the specialties and the future delivery of healthcare.
  • Free and discounted access to conferences and events as well as streamed CPD content via RCP Player including a series dedicated to trainees.
  • Education and training opportunities including free access to elearning modules such as Breaking bad news.
  • Discounts and offers including access to TOTUM Pro (formerly NUS Extra) and 20% off UptoDate.
  • Representation and advocacy through regional and international networks as well as the SFDN for medical students and foundation doctors.

After your foundation year, we also offer access to our CPD diary, saving you £165 a year, and the option to combine membership payments with your JRCPTB training fees.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible for RCP associate membership?

You are eligible to become an associate member of the RCP if you have not yet passed the MRCP(UK) exam but are at one of the following career grades:

  • medical student
  • foundation doctor: FY1 or FY2
  • internal medical trainee: IMT years 1–3
  • staff/trust grade post holder
  • locum consultant
  • honorary contract holder
  • specialty and associate specialist (SAS) doctors, advanced clinical practitioners, clinical fellows, and locum consultants before passing the MRCP(UK) exam
  • advanced clinical practitioner: working or training in acute medicine or within medical specialties (UK only).

International physicians who have not passed the MRCP(UK) exam can qualify for associate membership.

How much does associate membership cost per year?

If applying between 1 May – 31 October

Medical student – Free

Foundation doctor - £4 per month

Associate membership (UK) - £130.00

Associate membership (UK SAS doctors - salary threshold 2) - £150.00

Associate membership (International) - £103.00

Associate membership (trainees enrolled with JRCPTB) - £70.00

Associate membership (combined with JRCPTB training fee) - £239.00

Medical student – Free

Foundation doctor - £4 per month

Associate membership (UK SAS doctors - salary threshold 2) - £75.00

Associate membership (International) - £51.50
