Vacancy: associate international director for international medical graduates

The Royal College of Physicians (RCP) is seeking an associate international director (college officer) to oversee the Medical Training Initiative: an ambitious and expanding programme which enables junior doctors from all over the world to work and train in an NHS trust for up to 2 years.

The Medical Training Initiative (MTI) provides international trainees with the opportunity to improve their clinical, communication and leadership skills, while supporting NHS trusts at this time of unprecedented pressure by reducing dependence on locums with a sustainable, quality-assured alternative.
Housed within the RCP’s International Office, the MTI team works to support both international doctors who have already identified a suitable post in the UK, and also those who are looking for a placement. Through in-country interviews and assessment, the MTI programme seeks to ensure successful candidates are matched to suitable posts.

The role

We are looking for RCP fellows with significant experience in implementing strategy and developing partnerships with international institutions.

The post holder will:

  • work with the head of international affairs and the MTI programme manager to design, implement, monitor and evaluate a 4-year MTI strategy aimed at increasing the number of MTI participants
  • advise and support the MTI team on the clinical aspects of all applications and posts
  • promote the Medical Training Initiative in the UK and overseas, acting as an ambassador for the RCP
  • lead overseas interviews
  • lead induction days and the annual MTI symposium
  • lead on engaging with and supporting international medical graduates while they are in the UK and when they return to their countries of origin, addressing concerns, challenges and disputes as they occur
  • liaise with host trusts, working to resolve concerns and disputes when they occur.

This is an honorary position with a term of 4 years and will involve international travel.
