The Royal Colleges of Physicians is seeking to appoint three new members to the Diploma of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (DTM&H) board.
Role expectations
The successful applicant will assist the chair in the running of the DTM&H examination to ensure that all academic objectives are met and the DTM&H examination is delivered in accordance with RCP procedures:
- attend meetings of the DTM&H Board once per year, convened to review candidate performance in the most recent diet
- assist with the development of the DTM&H examination; act on the advice of the Education Board of the RCP on policy and academic matters relating to the DTM&H examination
- support the Examinations Department on the development and delivery of the DTM&H examination
- act as a DTM&H question writer, marker or member of an appeal or misconduct hearing panel as required.

Application criteria
Applicants should meet the following criteria to be eligible to apply:
- Medically qualified members - registered and in good standing with the GMC
- In active practice in a specialty relevant to the DTM&H which includes tropical medicine, infectious diseases, public health, epidemiology, child health, women’s health or any other specialty as deemed suitable by the board.
- Academic members confirm that they are still active in their field of expertise and in good standing.
- Expected to have been actively engaged in the training of junior doctors or other health care workers within the past 2 years.
- Expected to be up-to-date with their employer’s equality and diversity training, and with their employer’s appraisal process, national guidelines and CPD requirements.
Applicants should ideally have considerable experience working overseas.
We welcome applicants with an interest/expertise in maternal/reproductive and child health or non-communicable diseases and particularly women as they are currently under-represented within the DTM&H.
This is a non-salaried position though applicants should note all reasonable expenses and travel costs will be met by the Royal College of Physicians in line with the expenses policy. The tenure of board appointments is 5 years. Attendance at meetings is monitored and members may be asked to step down if they fail to attend regularly.
