The Royal College of Physicians (RCP) is running two intensive 3-day communication skills courses in Yangon in collaboration with the University of Medicine 1 during the week beginning 4 February 2019. The courses have been revised to provide an extended, immersive course experience.
The course is designed for delegates who plan to take the MRCP(UK) PACES exam in the near future. The course will give an interactive and immersive experience in advanced communication skills. We will help the delegates collect and impart information while focusing on the patient’s agenda. Learning is achieved through a combination of observation, role play in small and large groups and active participation in the mock stations. The course is run in a safe and supportive learning environment: all candidates should benefit irrespective of prior experience.
Beyond PACES, the course is intended to enhance communication skills for the participants, thus helping them become more effective communicators with patients and colleagues and helping them with their transition into more senior clinical roles. For those wishing to receive further training in the UK, for example in the Medical Training Initiative, better communication skills will help them adapt to the UK system more effectively and enhance their training experience.
New changes to the course include:
Faculty: The course will be led and delivered by experienced UK-based faculty. Faculty members are either experienced PACES examiners themselves and/or have extensive experience in coaching and training course delegates from Myanmar.
Course delivery: This will be a longer course than previous ones in Myanmar. All participants will get 3 solid days of coaching and training. The delegates will take part in group workshops to explore how they would approach common communications scenarios in their own way, based on their own personality, knowledge skills and language proficiency. They will also receive individualised feedback during the course to improve their chances of passing PACES. Course material is continually refreshed to cover topical themes. Course delivery is continually revised in response to delegate feedback. No two courses will ever stay the same.
Support: Close pastoral support will be given before, during and after the course by faculty members. This will include access via social media and personal email from enrolment till the exam. Delegates may ask questions in any way they feel comfortable.
Please note that the delegate number is capped at 50 to ensure optimal delegate-faculty ratio. Bookings are first-come, first-served.
To register, click on the 'Book now' button to begin the online booking and payment process. Please note that we are unable to accept cheques and your place is only secured upon payment of the registration fee as these courses are often oversubscribed.
There are two 3-day courses. All delegates are required to attend the first day of the course on 4 February and then indicate their preferences as to whether they will attend Course 1 or Course 2 (dates below).
While the course content will not be exactly the same so that all delegates get fresh exposure, there will be sufficient similarities in the two sequential courses and it is not advisable to register for both.
You will receive an automated email once the enrolment is complete. Attendance cost is 770 GBP (approximately 1,600,000 kyats).
