Lilly Lecture 2018 - Speaking truth to power

This year's Lilly lecture takes place on Wednesday 25 April 2018 from 7pm. Professor Megan Reitz, Ashridge Executive Education, Hult International Business School, will be speaking on the subject of 'Speaking truth to power'

Megan is Professor of Leadership and Dialogue at Ashridge where she speaks, researches, consults and supervises on the intersection of leadership, change, dialogue and mindfulness. She is on the Thinkers50 Radar of global business thinkers and is the author of Dialogue in Organizations (2015) and Mind Time (2018). Her recent research examining mindful leadership and ‘speaking truth to power’ has been published by Harvard Business Review and featured on TEDx.

Before joining Ashridge, Megan was a consultant with Deloitte; surfed the dot-com boom with boo.com; and worked in strategy consulting for The Kalchas Group, now the strategic arm of Computer Science Corporation. She was educated at Cambridge University and has a PhD from Cranfield School of Management. She is an accredited executive coach with Ashridge and The School of Coaching.

 She is mother to two wonderful daughters who test her regularly on her powers of mindfulness and dialogue.

About the Lilly Lecture

Speaking truth to power is a matter of individual and organisational survival. Across politics, entertainment, NHS, sport and the corporate world we see in the news headlines the consequences of staying silent on matters of misconduct. Alongside this imperative, more than ever, we need people up and down the formal hierarchy to speak up with disruptive, innovative ideas that will enable us to thrive in this breathtakingly fast-paced world. So why do we silence ourselves and how do we silence others? Professor Reitz has spent the last ten years exploring this question and she will share her findings and her advice on what we can do to enable more transparent and productive dialogue inside our organisations.
