Consultation response: Soft Drinks Industry Levy

The government announced as part of Budget 2016 that it would introduce a new Soft Drinks Industry Levy from April 2018. This response sets out the Obesity Health Alliance's views on the design and implementation of the proposed levy.

Summary

The Obesity Health Alliance (OHA) is a coalition of over 30 charities, medical royal colleges and campaign groups, including the RCP who have joined together to fight obesity. The OHA supports the Government’s proposals to introduce a soft drinks industry levy to combat obesity. We believe that the soft drinks industry levy is a vital measure in the fight against overweight and obesity in the UK.
