COVID-19 and RCP education, accreditation and events

Following the government’s announcement in March that the risk to the UK from coronavirus was high and the rules on social distancing, the Royal College of Physicians postponed or cancelled all key events and ceremonies.

This includes our accreditation programme visits, and our building including museum and library is now closed to all but essential staff. We will review this policy weekly in line with government advice.

All committee meetings will be held virtually. Please contact the relevant committee secretary for more information.

Exams and education

Exams

The Federation of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the UK has taken the extremely difficult but necessary decision to cancel all MRCP(UK) and specialty certificate examinations in the UK and internationally until September 2020. The MRCP(UK) website has up-to-date information regarding changes due to COVID-19, including delays to issuing PACES results and diplomas.

Plans for RCP assessments are under review and we have already unfortunately had to cancel the Diploma in Tropical Medicine & Hygiene written examination in April and the Physician Associate National OSCE scheduled for May. The RCP Assessment Unit will contact candidates directly with any changes to individual examination arrangements. If you have any queries or concerns about upcoming assessments please contact the RCP Assessment Unit at assessment.unit@rcplondon.ac.uk.

The Faculty of Physician Associates website has more information on exams for physician associates.

Delays to issuing PACES results and MRCP(UK) Diplomas - 25 Mar 2020

Due to the UK government’s strict social distancing guidance advising all but essential travel, we are very sorry that there is a delay to the uploading of PACES results [from the 27th February onwards] to candidates’ MyMRCP online accounts. This is because the process requires Federation of the Royal College of Physicians of UK staff to physically scan results. The situation is under review and updates will be posted by MRCP(UK) here.

Courses and workshops

The education team has decided to postpone all 1–3 day workshops until further notice.

We are offering delegates the option of transferring to a new date or receiving a full refund. The education team will be in contact with all those who have a registration over the next few days to find out your preference. It would mean a great deal to us to retain your involvement in our courses and workshops at this unprecedented time. We are planning to ensure we supply all our clinicians’ educational needs when the situation improves.

If you opt to transfer we will contact you once the new dates are organised. Should the new date be unsuitable then you will receive a full refund.

If you have any queries, please contact education.courses@rcplondon.ac.uk.

Events and conferences including regional updates

We have postponed the RCP’s annual Medicine conference until 7-8 January 2021 – to take place at the same venue, the ICC in Birmingham. If you have already booked your place we have automatically transferred your booking to the new date. If you’re unable to attend, please email us at medicine@rcplondon.ac.uk to request your full refund. Please note that we are unable to process refunds within 14 days of the event. All refunds will be made via the original payment method.

All events and conferences have been cancelled until Tuesday 30 June 2020. All booked delegates will receive a full refund of the amount paid or the option of transferring your booking to an alternative event (should an alternative be available). If a transfer of your booking is not requested our team will process a refund automatically so you do not need to contact us. However, if you have not received your refund by Friday 17 April, please email conferences@rcplondon.ac.uk

If you have any questions regarding specific events please email conferences@rcplondon.ac.uk.

Commercial bookings – meetings & events

All external meetings & events have been cancelled until Tuesday 30 June. Your event planner will be in contact to arrange a new date, unless you wish to cancel, with any deposit paid refunded to you.

We will not be conducting site visits during this time, but would be delighted to do a virtual site visit with you. Alternatively, please visit our virtual venue visit and 3D immersive walk through online.

We have the unique advantage of being able to offer a range of remote access options to facilitate virtual meetings, conferences and events in the coming weeks. So you can keep in touch without having to be together in person. If you would like a demo and further information, please contact us.
