Joint Advisory Group on gastrointestinal endoscopy appoints new chair

The Royal College of Physicians (RCP) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Siwan Thomas-Gibson as the chair of the Joint Advisory Group on gastrointestinal endoscopy (JAG). This is with effect from 1 January 2017 when the current chair, Mr John Stebbing, leaves the position.

Dr Thomas-Gibson is a consultant gastroenterologist based at St Mark’s Hospital, London North West Healthcare NHS Trust, and has been a member of the RCP since 1996. She has a wealth of experience in endoscopy and has supported and promoted training and assessment nationally and internationally.

The Joint Advisory Group on gastrointestinal endoscopy is a multi-stakeholder body hosted at the RCP, and provides UK-wide support for endoscopy services to ensure that they have the skills, resources and motivation necessary to provide the highest quality of patient-centred care.

During her long association with the JAG, Dr Thomas-Gibson was previously the chair of the quality assurance of training working group from 2009 to 2012.

Over the next few months Dr Thomas-Gibson will work closely with Mr Stebbing to ensure a thorough handover of all current activities. The RCP looks forward to the JAG’s continued success in the future under her direction.
