RCP president Professor Jane Dacre addressed the BMA special representative meeting on 3 May.
Subjects that the RCP president spoke about included:
- morale in the NHS
- the circumstances that led to industrial action being taken by junior doctors
- workload issues
- the critical need for greater social care funding.
In assessing the current environment for those working in the NHS, Professor Dacre's message to the meeting was blunt:
We are under-doctored, underfunded and overstretched.
Professor Dacre called for education and training to be given higher status and urged junior doctors 'to be valued, supported and motivated'.
