RCP calls on health sector to ensure workforce is fully equipped for digital future

Following the publication of Health Education England's report, The Topol Review, the RCP has called on the health sector to act to ensure its workforce is fully equipped to make the best use of digital advancements.

In response to the report, which explores how to prepare the healthcare workforce, through education and training, to deliver the digital future, RCP president Professor Andrew Goddard said:

We welcome this important review into the impact of new technologies on the medical workforce. Technology is advancing fast and it can bring immense benefit when it is safe, person centred and used to support the role of clinicians.

We need to act now to ensure that our workforce is fully equipped to make the best use of advancements.

Professor Andrew Goddard, RCP president

We need to act now to ensure that our workforce is fully equipped to make the best use of advancements. But we must also make sure that roll out of technology across the NHS is measured, responsible and done safely. Regulation and critical appraisal is vital in ensuring constant evaluation and improvement – which doctors must play an active role in.
