RCP president Jane Dacre comments on Home Office delivery of Brexit report

Commenting on the Home Affairs Committee report Home Office delivery of Brexit: immigration, RCP president Professor Jane Dacre said:

We welcome the Home Affairs Committee report’s recommendations that the government should clarify its approach to immigration. It’s vital that the NHS is able to continue to recruit talented professionals into an overstretched and understaffed system. The Government must continue provide reassurances that EU doctors will remain welcome and have their contribution to the NHS valued without having to jump through numerous hoops.

The Home Office must urgently address the fact that doctors are being refused visas at a time of unprecedented pressure on the NHS. The RCP welcomes the committee’s recommendations for a review of the Tier 2 system and would encourage this review to specifically consider NHS recruitment.
