RCP responds to NHS England announcement of a new community pharmacist service to support patients to stop smoking

The RCP has responded to NHS England’s announcement that every pharmacy in England will be able to offer stop smoking support to patients when they are discharged from hospital.

In response to the announcement, Professor Sanjay Agrawal, chair of the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) Tobacco Advisory Group, said:

“The RCP welcomes the introduction of a new community pharmacist service to help break tobacco addiction that could potentially prevent death and illness for thousands of people.

“We look forward to the publication of the Tobacco Control Plan and the opportunity to treat tobacco addiction with every NHS contact, as called for in our report Smoking and health 2021.”
