Emergency and urgent medical care statement

In conjunction with the Getting It Right First Time programme (GIRFT), the RCP has launched a consensus statement on emergency and urgent medical care. It promotes a consistent and coordinated approach across medical specialties to meet the needs of patients.

The statement recognises the unprecedented challenges faced by clinicians during the pandemic and acknowledges the time, commitment and hard work teams and individuals have put in for the benefit of patient care.

The statement focuses on key areas including:

  • Rapid access to a senior decision maker for specialty advice and assessment
  • Ward-based care beyond acute medical units
  • Virtual wards
