The RCP Global: 2017 impact report summarises the Royal College of Physicians' (RCP's) key achievements over the past year, while looking forward at programmes currently under development.
2017 was the busiest year yet for RCP Global (previously the International Office), with the RCP's first global health conference, the first group of MTI participants to be awarded the Diploma in UK Medical Practice, the first training course in Sierra Leone, and the conclusion of our M-PACT programme to name just a few of the milestones reached.
Key achievements
The first impact report highlights RCP Global's key achievements during 2017, which include:
- Eight clinical training courses delivered in Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal and Sierra Leone aimed at further strengthening capacity to fight infectious diseases and control outbreaks.
- 217 applicants approved to undertake placements in NHS trusts as part of the Medical Training Initiative.
- 147 attendees at MTI inductions, our GMC-endorsed introduction to UK practice.
- A total of nine clinical training courses delivered in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda under our METAF programme designed to build capacity in the specialties of oncology and neurology. 145 East African physicians receiving training during the year.
- Our first global health conference held in October with leading non-governmental organisations including Save the Children, the Jordanian Red Crescent Society and Doctors Under Fire participating.
It was the busiest year to-date in terms of overseas activity, and the perfect platform to build upon as we move into the RCP's quincentenary year.
