This workshop provides a practical approach to building confidence in how we can better manage our patients with mental health issues, in both hospital inpatient and outpatient settings.
The workshop will identify opportunities to explore, understand and identify how we can achieve better outcomes for our patients who have mental health conditions alongside their physical ones and highlight what differences we can make within inpatient and outpatient settings. We will put theory into practice through interactive case-based approaches and small group work to explore situations such as:
-
Ways in which mental health interacts with other conditions eg COPD and anxiety.
-
How to manage our patients with diabetes and depression
-
How to better manage our AMU frequent attenders
-
What else is possible with frequently encountered mental health issues
-
What to do when the patient is refusing care
The aim is to strengthen our skills in diagnostic and clinical reasoning and how we manage our patients with mental health conditions that we often feel less well equipped to do well
The programme will be jointly delivered by Dr Sean Cross and Dr Emma Vaux.
Dr Sean Cross is Clinical Director of the Mind & Body Programme at King’s Health Partners; a Consultant Liaison Psychiatrist at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust; and Managing Director of Maudsley Learning.
