We would like to thank all those who have supported and attended the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) and the Society of Physicians in Wales (SoPW) joint annual update in acute and general internal medicine, which took place on 17 and 18 November 2016 at the Cardiff Marriott Hotel.
It was a successful and well-attended event, with over 300 attendees. Over the 2 days, 19 speakers delivered excellent talks on a wide range of topics relevant to both trainees and consultants. There was an open forum with the RCP president, and the Bradshaw Lecture by Professor Paul Cockwell was a particular highlight. There was also plenty of opportunity for all attendees to network over the course of the event; this included a very pleasant evening conference dinner on 17 November.
For the second year the poster competition was organised in support of all student, trainee and consultant members and non-members of the RCP in Wales and surrounding regions. The aim was to provide a platform for sharing best practice and individual development. This was a collaborative initiative between the RCP, the SoPW and the Wales Deanery School of Medicine. We were extremely pleased with the response, and 28 abstracts were accepted for publication.
Exhibitors: Amgen UK, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Eli Lilly and Company, Kyowa Kirin International plc, Novartis and the Royal College of Physicians.
For your convenience, you are able to download speakers’ presentations; speakers at the conference have kindly given their permission for these to be shared with you. We are also very pleased to publish online the accepted abstracts of the poster competition, which you can download. Hard copies of the abstracts booklet are also available from our office in Cardiff.
Please note that copyright remains with the speakers and authors, and that presentations and abstracts must not be reproduced without the speaker’s or author’s consent.
If you enjoyed this year’s joint annual update and would like to receive an email alert when bookings are open for next year’s update, please email Wales@rcplondon.ac.uk. The date of the RCP-SoPW Joint Update in 2017 is Thursday 16 - Friday 17 November at the Marriott Hotel in Cardiff.
