RCP response to workforce burnout and resilience consultation

The RCP has submitted written evidence to the Health and Social Care Select Committee’s inquiry: Workforce burnout and resilience in the NHS and social care.

The Committee’s inquiry considers the increased pressures brought by COVID-19 on the health and care workforce and the resilience of services to cope with high levels of stress.

The RCP’s response outlines findings from several of our COVID-19 surveys aimed at measuring the impact of the pandemic on the workforce. It also draws on key findings from a wellbeing survey carried out on members earlier this year in order to highlight the ongoing pressures which physicians face. The response reiterates the need to double the number of medical school places to increase capacity in the long-term and ease the pressures which impact wellbeing.
