The Elizabethan mathematician and astrologer John Dee was often known as ‘Doctor Dee’. Though he was not a qualified or registered physician he did have a strong interest in medicine.
Members of the John Dee exhibition team describe their favourite objects in the exhibition ‘Scholar, courtier, magician: the lost library of John Dee’.
The Royal College of Physicians library holds more than 100 volumes stolen from John Dee during his lifetime, the largest single collection of Dee’s books in the world.
A new exhibition at the RCP opens on 18 January 2016. It explores the life and work of the Elizabethan mathematician and astrologer John Dee through annotated books from his library.
