What we are doing
The RCP has a long-standing relationship with Oman including hosting the bi-annual Advanced General Medicine Conference in partnership with the Sultan Qaboos University and the Oman Medical Specialty Board.
Oman Evidence Translation and Utilisation (OETU) project
The RCP has also been working with the Oman Ministry of Health on a major guideline development initiative called the Oman Evidence Translation and Utilisation (OETU) project. This involved taking recently published guidelines and adapting them to suit the local culture and context.
Oman National Evidence-based Guidelines
The RCP’s Care Quality Improvement Department (CQID) department worked with Oman multi-disciplinary guideline development groups (as part of the OETU project), to develop and publish two evidence-based national guidelines.
The first Oman National Stroke Guideline was launched in Muscat in Feb 2014 and the second Oman National guideline for ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) was completed in early 2015.
Higher level interview workshops
An RCP team led a 3-day higher level interview skills workshop, funded by the Oman Ministry of Health, and held in Muscat during October 2015.
The workshop was aimed at developing the interviewing skills of those responsible for appointing consultants. It covered interview theory, legal considerations, practical processes, consultant job plans as well as mock interview scenarios and the Theory of Inventive Problem Solving (TRIZ) applied to high level interviews.
