Specialty-specific guidance on clinical care and treatment for COVID-19

The links below contain advice from specialty societies solely on aspects of clinical care and treatment during the COVID-19 epidemic.

We are providing these links as part of our support to members seeking specialty advice for specific medical conditions, particularly those outside their own specialty. The situation is a fast-evolving one, and while we will aim to keep the links up to date, we would recommend you bookmark the advice pages of the specialties of most interest to you.

RCP president Professor Andrew Goddard is sending weekly bulletins to members – if you have not been receiving these and would like to, do check your RCP mailing preferences to enable us to contact you this way. You can read his regular blogs by logging in through My RCP. For daily updates, follow us on social media. We also produce a weekly bulletin for members.

Identifying and helping to protect patients most at risk from COVID-19

The Royal College of Physicians has worked with the Chief Medical Officer for England and several specialist societies to identify and help protect those patients most at risk from COVID-19 who are being asked to undergo strict self-isolation for 12 weeks or longer because they are immunosuppressed. The societies have each produced guidance to support identification of patients and a template letter suitable for contacting patients most at risk.

Guidance on implementing the NICE critical care guideline

The RCP has brought together many national health bodies to produce an online resource supporting the implementation of the NICE COVID-19 rapid guideline: critical care in adults (NG159). The website aims to provide information for patients, relatives, carers and professionals to support good practice in the critical care of patients with COVID-19.

A full list of NICE rapid guidelines and rapid evidence summaries relating to COVID-19 is available via the NICE website.
