Clinical Medicine journal

The Clinical Medicine journal seeks to encourage high standards of medical care by promoting good clinical practice and influencing policy through original research and articles on topics including current issues, law and ethics.

Aimed at practising physicians in the UK and overseas, the journal assists the RCP in supporting a wide range of specialties through a dedicated continuing medical education (CME) section which presents the latest advances in a chosen specialty, with self-assessment questions at the end of each topic enabling CPD accreditation to be acquired.

Our latest impact factor, released in June 2023, is 4.4.

We have recently transitioned to an open access model. For articles where none of the authors is a member or fellow of the RCP, an article publishing charge (APC) is payable on acceptance to cover the costs associated with publication for articles submitted on or after 10 January 2024. This is currently £1,000 for a full-length research or review paper or £500 for a case study or opinion piece. Publication is free of charge for RCP members and fellows.

The journal has editorial independence from the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) and decisions regarding the commissioning, selection and dissemination of content are the responsibility of the editor, taking into account peer review and guidance from the editorial board. All articles and other material published by ClinMed reflect the agreed opinions of their authors and should not be taken to represent the policy of the RCP unless this is specifically stated.

Our commitment to the developing world

Set up by the World Health Organization (WHO), the Hinari Access to Research for Health Programme and the Programme for the Enhancement of Research Information (PERI) provide free or low-cost online access to journals across Africa, Latin America, Eastern Europe, Central Asia and the Middle East. Working with these organisations, Clinical Medicine is committed to supplying non-profit institutions in developing countries with access to vital material, at greatly reduced or no cost.
