Doctor-patient communications skills courses

What we are doing

The Royal College of Physicians (RCP) delivers intensive 2-day communications skills courses overseas designed to provide doctors of all levels with the opportunity to refresh and develop essential verbal and non-verbal communications skills.

The courses reflect on the importance on effective doctor-patient communication, before participating in a range of workshops on topics including:

  • patient centred care
  • active listening
  • structuring the consultation
  • breaking bad news.

Courses are highly interactive, with learning achieved through a combination of role play, observation and small group work. Communications skills courses may be of particular interest to doctors preparing to take the MRCP(UK) PACES examination.

Run the course at your institution

If you’re interested in working with the RCP to deliver a course at your institution, please email the Global team, at global@rcplondon.ac.uk.
