Improving teams in healthcare: Resource 4 - Team development

Produced by:

The fourth resource in the Improving teams in healthcare series explains why team development is such an integral part of efficient working, and provides practical tools to help teams reflect, grow and adapt.

This resource is supported by the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management

There is tendency for healthcare teams to be passive; members can work side by side on a daily basis but do not review their performance or actively seek to develop. In this document, the role of leadership in the context of active teams is explored. It describes how team meetings and goal setting, as well as review, reflection and reflexivity, all have a part to play in evolving teams. The benefits of Balint groups and Schwarz rounds are also explained.
